(Stockhorn) Arena in Thun (CH)
In a referendum held in December 2007, 60% of the citizens of Thun voted for the creation of a new stadium. At a cost of 140 million euros it is the largest construction project ever to be built in Thun. Despite the size of the Thun Arena (121m x 126m) and the accompanying Panorama Center (265m x 83m), with a height of just 14m the building project remains discreetly in the background.
For home games of the Swiss Super League team, FC Thun, the stadium provides seating for 10,000 spectators. This includes 300 seats in the VIP area, which in addition to football matches can also be used to stage events. The stadium was inaugurated in July 2011 with a friendly match between FC Thun and 1. FC Cologne. The Panorama Center was opened in September 2011.

Fire protection plays a vitally important role in areas where large gatherings of people take place. The reliability of the installed components has the highest priority here. Maintenance-free fire dampers by Wildeboer Bauteile GmbH play their part. Types FK90, FR90 and FK90K of the 92 series were installed in both the Thun Arena and the Panorama Center. In doing so, account had to be taken of the widest variety of installation situations.
Due to their great versatility, these fire dampers met the requirements without difficulty. In extensive procedures, the products are tested to European Standard EN 1366-2 and generally approved for use in construction by the “Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik” (DIBt). Based on this certification, the fire dampers were also approved by the “schweizerische Vereinigung Kantonaler Feuerversicherungen” (VKF).
The fire dampers used are all equipped with maintenance-free electrical spring return actuators. The functionality of motorised fire dampers can be checked at any time by remote control. A sustainable reduction in operating costs is achieved as a result. In addition to the fire dampers referred to above, EK90 smoke dampers and SKB sound attenuators were also used.
Our Swiss partner, LaminAir AG of Burgdorf, was responsible for delivering Wildeboer products at the Thun Arena and Panorama Center.
